Cause and Effect!
It is a law of the universe – nothing happens without a cause.
To emphasise that scientific fact, it is irrefutable that nothing just happens, there is always something that causes it to happen and the basis of all causes is the application of a form of energy. In other words all changes, good, bad or indifferent, are caused by application of energy in some form. This scientific fact is the corner stone of all my research and why I eventually coined and adopted the name Mace Energy Method for our procedures, which are dedicated to an improvement in emotional health for all mankind irrespective of colour, creed or political leanings.
Before proceeding it is appropriate to indicate that the catalyst for this article is a book given to me by my daughter for my recent 87thbirthday.
She rightly decided that because of my background as a professional mariner and navigator that I would be interested in the career of John Harrison (1693- 1776). Because of my maritime studies, his story was not new to me, but my daughter was not to know that. Harrison was a carpenter with only the basic education that that occupation implied,
but was an avid reader and basically self-educated. He established a foolproof method of calculating longitude. The inability to do so had plagued mariners and researchers ever since the very first mariner had lost sight of land and asked himself, ”Where exactly am I!” Harrison revolutionised navigation and saved countless thousands of mariner’s lives, as well as providing enormous financial benefits to international commerce, yet he spent years battling entrenched interests before his work was eventually recognised, initially by a grateful British crown and establishment and eventually by the scientific world at large.
Unlike Harrison I have had the benefit of a comparatively good education, but like Harrison my expertise and discoveries (I have no qualms in using those words) have been in a field totally divorced from the area of my original occupational training. I am a retired Master Mariner not a psychologist, yet my research has revolutionised and uncovered a full
understanding of emotional health. Please note that I refer to psychology under its original definition, ” a study of the human psyche”, not by its currently accepted definition as a “study of human behaviour”.
Harrison, after years of opposition from the jealous researchers and entrenched ‘authorities’, eventually, at the instigation of England’s of King George 111, lived to see his work fully recognised.
History is littered with examples of successful individual researchers and innovators who were challenged by entrenched authorities, such as Semmelweis of hygiene fame, and Harvey of the bloodstream. I have given Harrison prominence because of my intimate connection and knowledge of navigation, prompted as stated above by a gift from my daughter.
To return to the thrust of this article and to demonstrate and prove the fact that everything that happens is the product of energy, it is best to use everyday physical universe examples that even the least informed will recognise and understand. You could fill a library with others but the following few examples will suffice.
Firstly, a kettle of cold water needed for a hot beverage. Provided it has an airtight lid to prevent evaporation, once filled, unless heat is applied, it will remain full and at the ambient temperature for time immemorial. Secondly, an ordinary light globe will not produce light until electrical energy is applied to its filament. Again, a pencil sitting on a desk will stay there until someone or something shifts it! Then the example of a magnetic compass needle that will remain still until it comes under the influence of a deviating magnetic force or human intervention! These are a few of an infinite number of examples to demonstrate that nothing just happens and that there is a cause behind everything happens and that cause is the application of energy.
The same argument applies to human emotions. They are all the product of human energy with a major difference. Physical universe changes are caused by an outside energy source, whereas emotional changes such as an angry outburst, are the product of energy within the psyche’s own universe. This last example leads into the subject of emotional health, in which field the Mace Energy Method (MEM) operates. In the field of emotional health we also have psychology, psychiatry and various “Alternative” therapies. The former two are generally recognised as the “authorities” in this field, whereas MEM and other therapies are generally regarded as ‘new age’ and are not officially recognised and taught in universities or medical schools. This situation will only change if we use our collective energy to do so. The various web sites of Mace Energy Method practitioners contain numerous testimonials as to the effectiveness of our procedures.
Without exception, MEM is decidedly unique in comparison to all the other modalities, so it is easy to hold a viewpoint of “US” and “THEM”. This automatically poses the question, what is the difference between THEM and US?
As we increase our reach into society, the question about our status is bound to eventually appear with particular attention on MEM’s claim to be unique. Whether it is asked by someone genuinely interested in MEM’s research and prompted by a genuine desire to gain knowledge or by a person in a belligerent and derogatory sense, the best response is a simple and precise answer. As regards the latter derogatory inquiry “least said, soonest mended” is appropriate. There is an article in the Causism materials which points out the futility of arguing, so what follows is in response to a genuine inquirer seeking knowledge about MEM.
In another article “What is the Mace Method”, six salient points were offered which epitomise the uniqueness of MEM, but to attempt to parrot them off would surely be off-putting, so an initial simplistic answer, “unlike other therapies we handle cause not manifestation”, will set the scene.
A genuine inquirer will probably ask you what do you mean by that, so here are the basics from a scientific point of view.
The procedures known as MEM are the practical components of Causism and are based upon the fundamental fact that nothing happens in life without something causing it. We are all controlled by our feelings and all negative behaviour stems from negative feelings, which stem from negative influences. There are three elements in an emotional problem, for instance a tendency to have angry outbursts. The outburst itself is the manifestation, but prior to that is the trigger that caused the outburst. The trigger is only the APPARENT cause, but underlying that is the REAL or fundamental cause, a negative influence, which MEM calls a negative identity.
In the practitioner’s manual there is an article headed Themes, which is directed at clients who offer up a stream of answers to one of our explorative questions concerning relationship problems. The solution for this type of client is to ask if there is a common theme in these problems. When the common theme is located and eliminated very often no more relationship problems can be found. You see the original stream of answers were apparent causes or triggers, whereas the common theme was the fundamental cause.
To elaborate on this, consider the case of an individual who has never had a long-term relationship with a female, although for years he has maintained a friendship with several males. If you were to investigate the situation with females you would uncover many reasons why each relationship failed, but in each and every case the REASON is only an apparent cause. If he cannot maintain a relationship with a female, there must be an underlying negative factor that is fundamental to the issue.
There is no doubt that all negative aspects of life are the product of negative influences (identities) and as experience has illustrated, all negative identities produce unwanted feelings. Experience has also demonstrated that negative feelings are synonymous with a negative identity and the only difference between them is the name used. This is of monumental importance because eliminating the feeling also eliminates the negative influence (identity).
If, when handling relationships the client never seems to run out of answers, the question to use is “Is there a common theme with these problems?” The answer will be the FUNDAMENTAL REASON, which when addressed usually negates many, if not all relationship issues.
What we refer to as a person’s Ruin is the most negative aspect of their entire life and is always eliminated first. Once it is eliminated the client is asked how it has adversely their life, but with the proviso that no details are required, just a simple overview. This is the only time that ‘rubbing their nose’ in the past is of value. It is not of life changing therapeutic value, but simply to make the client aware of how simple and effective are the procedures.
To return to the theme of apparent and fundamental causes, therein is where MEM departs from other therapies – every therapy except MEM handles the apparent cause and not the basic cause, which lies within the psyche. This is why MEM is so effective in producing permanent outcomes. The case of placing a bucket under a dripping tap instead of replacing the washer is a classic example of handling manifestation rather than cause.
Transpose the situation to a persistent emotional problem such as PTSD where a solution adopted is to administer tranquilising drugs. There is nothing wrong in administering drugs as a temporary stopgap solution, but when taking drugs becomes the final answer the situation should be re-examined. Resorting to drugs is like resorting to a bucket to handle a leaking tap. It is a stopgap measure that needs re-addressing.
If a person who is genuinely interested in our work puts a question as to how we are different, a simple and precise answer needs to be on the tip of your tongue, for there is nothing more off-putting than a rambling dissertation as an answer. The most simple and direct answer would be that we handle cause not manifestation. A most likely response from a genuinely interested questioner would be what do you mean? How you proceed from there is entirely a matter of personal choice.
In therapy you can spend hours analysing the reasons and revisiting past effects, but the situation will not resolve until the fundamental cause can be located and eliminated.
To sum up, every emotional problem has an emotional cause so the faster we find and eliminate the fundamental cause; the quicker and cheaper is the solution.
